The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General YD Ahmed has advised Corps members not to betray the trust the masses have in them by ensuring a free and fair election.

The DG who was represented by an Assistant Director, Corps Welfare and Health Services, NYSC NDHQ, Mr Augustine Audu made this known on Wednesday, at Ekiti Parapo pavilion while delivering an address on election matters and corps members involvement.

The director-general, who warned Corps Members not to contravene electoral and national law, urged them to work lawfully, upholding the credibility of INEC.

General YD Ahmed further reassured corps members of adequate security and substantial welfare during the forthcoming nation-wide general election.

He guaranteed them that every security measure has been provided in collaboration with INEC to ensure that corps members are safe and secured during and after election.

Speaking further, he highlighted malpractices such as forgery, bribery, conspiracy and willful destruction of ballot papers as grave offence punishable by law.

To further allay their fears, he spelled out the measures as following: provision of security personnel at polling units, provision of convenient and accessible distress phone numbers, inspection and monitoring tour by the DG, State Coordinators, ZI, LGI and other assigned officials of the Scheme on election day and heavy military men patrol across the polling units.

He however prescribed safety tips and measures to be taken should any anomalies happen.

“This election is a critical national assignment that will earn you national and international applause.

“The interdependence of INEC and NYSC to deliver free and fair polls should not be jeopardized. Don’t betray the trust Nigerians have in you, he warned”.

“Be good ambassadors of your immediate family, yourself and the NYSC Scheme” he added.

An official of the Scheme who doubles as the schedule-officer in-charge of Corps members mobilisation for INEC ad-hoc duties in Ekiti, Mr Donald Akinola also appealed to the Corps members to make the Scheme proud , while assuring the DG that Ekiti corps members will discharge their responsibility within the provision of the law.
