Some Nigerians have begun to react to the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi’s statement where he urged the church to take back their country in the 2023 election.
According to some of their reactions to a viral video on the internet where Obi was seen addressing an unnamed church congregation saying, ‘Please Church Wake Up, Take Back Your Country’, they tagged Obi’s campaign as needless and reckless campaign threat by a supposed Presidential candidate, demanding that he retract the statement and apologise publicly to Nigerians.
According to David Ekundayo, ”Let Obi continues to make those reckless statements, they will stand against him in the coming election.
Sheikh Yaqoub said, ”Peter Obi is dividing Nigerians along religious line and small time now they will tell us that he get sense.“
POn his part, Osagie Hamilton said: ”’This is how they start a fight they can finish. And majority of his people are in the North. Anyway we are waiting for him on the day of election. I am a Christian but I hate religion bigotry.”
Another Nigerian identified as Seye Ogunrinola said: ”Obi’s relationship with a Mad Man is yielding bad results. Just imagined what is coming out of a Presidential candidate. So irritating.
Also, Wale Adeniran wrote: ”the message by Peter Obi is a very reckless, divisive and irresponsible statement from a man who wants to be the president of the country.”
That he succeeded in pitching Anglicans and others against his Catholic due to unprecedented intra nepotistic style of governance does not and should not give him the courage to want to set us against each other as Nigerians. Nigeria does not belong to any religion. No one can islamize or christianize her. Nobody! This should be condemned by every Nigerian while he tenders apology and publicly withdraw the statement.
