The Monarch of Omuo Ekiti in Ekiti East Local Government area of Ekiti State on Monday lamented the massive destruction of property during the Monday’s rainstorm, describing the proportion of wreckage as monumental and worrisome to the community.

The Paramount ruler of the community, Oba Noah Omonigbehin, appealed to the federal and the state governments for timely intervention in the rainstorm incidents, which blew off roofs of scores of buildings and rendered many homeless.

Worst hit by the devastating rainstorm were residential buildings, commercial structures in Iworo and Ilisa quarters, while electrical facilities were not spared by the stormy rainfall.

While touring the sections affected yesterday to evaluate the level of wreckage, Oba Omonigbehin, expressed gratitude that there were no casualties during the torrential and stormy downpour.

The monarch said while some structures experienced partial damage, it was a complete sweeping for the rooftops and the entire structures in some places, which he said would automatically subject the owners to emergency financial burden.

His words, “You could see that the destruction was massive and there is no way it won’t be a financial burden to those that were affected. Though, we are happy that no life was lost, but this is the major disaster to us.

“We really sympathised with those affected. We call for urgent intervention from both the Federal and state governments to ameliorate the suffering of those affected by the rainstorm.

“I also appeal to the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency and National Emergency Management Agency visit the flashpoints to evaluate the damaged structures and provide succour for the affected people”.
