’26 Poll: Ekiti CP, Eribo confirms partnership with sister agencies to maintain law, order

Adebayo Adenrele

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo has confirmed partnership with Army, Civil Defence and other security personnel to maintain law and order during and after the State’s gubernatorial election, scheduled for 2026.

CP Eribo, who spoke with newsmen during an interview in his office in Ado Ekiti warned mischief and trouble makers to steer clear of the state as the command would not tolerate any act of lawlessness that could affect the process of the poll.

NEWSTODAYNG recalled that the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) had last month released the timetable for the Ekiti election and since then, the state has continued to witness an increase in political activities.

The Commissioner of Police affirmed that necessary strategies have been adopted to nip in the bud every situation before they get out of hand.

His words, “We are all working together to ensure we sustain the existing peace and we have continued to enjoy the cooperation of the people. Ekiti is relatively peaceful because the people are well educated and they have shown appreciable cooperation and understanding with the security agencies.

“We have no business in the various political programs but our concern is no person or group commit any infringement or infraction that could promote lawlessness.

“And of course, since it’s a one-off election, like you rightly mentioned, the IGP will be directly involved. He will visit Ekiti State. He will come here and relate what he expects from everybody”.

CP Eribo confirmed that the command in partnership with other security agencies are currently combing all the bush and forests in boundary areas to forestall cases of kidnapping and attack on rural dwellers.

He added that the command under his watch had achieved tremendous breakthrough in crime fighting especially in the area of maintaining peace and orderliness.

“As long as there is peace, that’s already an achievement on its own.  There is peace in the state. It’s an achievement, a laudable achievement.

“The bush combing idea we are doing, we are like taking the battle to the kidnappers, We are not waiting for them to come to the road again, to start picking innocent travellers”.
