Some residents of Araromi, Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State have opposed the request by Ekiti State Attorney General to take over the case of alleged Certificate Forgery against the monarch of the community.
The monarch, Oba Babalola Adebomi is currently standing trial at the Federal High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti on a two count charge, bothering on alleged forgery of the University of Ibadan certificate and presenting same to the University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti for a job in 2008 and also alleged forgery of the Discharge Certificate of National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) and presenting same to the University Teaching Hospital for job.
The case which started in Akure, Ondo State was transferred to Ado Ekiti and it came up on Wednesday before Justice Babs kuewumi
During the court proceeding, a principal legal officer from the Ekiti State Ministry of justice, Mr Sina Adeyemo told the court that he had been authorised by the Attorney General of the State, Mr Dayo Apata SAN to take over the matter citing sections of the constitution to back his request but his request was opposed by the police prosecutor Itunu Osobu on the account that the case is between the monarch and federal government.
Addressing journalists after the sitting, some members of the community worried over the request of the State Government saying such development amounts to suspicion considering the role played during the initial arrest of the monarch.
Spokesperson for the group, Gabriel Olusola Aina appealed to the Attorney General, Dayo Apata, SAN, to allow the police to continue with the case due to the professionalism displayed by the prosecutor since the inception of the case.
According to him, the residents do not have confidence that they would get justice through the ministry of Justice.
