FUTA appoints Prof Olagbaju Acting Provost, College of Health Sciences

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has appointed Professor Biodun Olagbuji as the Acting Provost of its College of Health Sciences.

His appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Adenike Oladiji and takes effect from August 16, 2025 for the duration of one year.

The Vice-Chancellor, in a letter signed by the Registrar, Charles Adeleye, expressed confidence in Professor Olagbuji’s ability to provide purposeful leadership and inspire academic, administrative and professional staff towards advancing the College.

Before his appointment at FUTA, he served as a Professor at Ekiti State University, where he was Acting Dean and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital.

Professor Olagbuji had held several leadership roles at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, (EKSUTH) including Head of Department, Supervising Consultant of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre and Project Director of the Maternity Complex Revolving Fund project, among others.

Born in Owo, Ondo State, on December 29, 1975, Professor Olagbuji is a seasoned medical educator, clinician, researcher and physician-scientist with over two decades of medical practice.

He earned his MBBS degree from the University of Benin in 2002, a Master of Public Health in Women’s and Reproductive Health from Johns Hopkins University, USA, in 2012 and a PhD in Women’s Health from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 2020.

He also obtained a Clinical Fellowship Certificate in Advanced High-Risk Obstetrics from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2018.

A Fellow of both the West African College of Surgeons (2010) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (2011) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Professor Olagbuji has combined clinical expertise with academic excellence. His research sits at the international forefront of gestational diabetes and contraception for female adolescents living with HIV.

He has studied and worked at leading universities and hospitals in Canada, South Africa, and the USA, and is also an aspiring professional accountant, having completed the ICAN Foundation Examinations in 2019.

As Acting Provost, he is expected to work closely with the Vice-Chancellor in promoting team spirit within the College of Health Sciences, ensuring staff participation in key initiatives, and upholding the highest standards of academic excellence in the College and the University.
