Ex-VP Osinbajo faults Churches for preaching miraculous wealth, says it contributes to corruption

A former Vice President in Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has faulted Churches for preaching and laying emphasis on miracle money and supernatural wealth, rather than hard work and integrity, which according to him contributes to corruption and moral decay.

The former VP stated this at the 80th birthday party of the Presiding Bishop of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) International Church, Mike Okonkwo.

In a viral video, Osinbajo delivered a critique of the Nigerian church’s role in society, focusing on how certain prosperity gospel messages undermine national development.

Osinbajo contrasts this with the historical Protestant Reformation, which promoted diligence, honesty and productivity as essential for societal transformation.

He warns that without a return to these principles, the church risks perpetuating the very issues it should address, urging a reevaluation of how the gospel is preached to foster genuine societal change.
