A Leader and former National Deputy Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George has condemned the first Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for fundraising a total amount of N20.7bn for the National Library project during the occasion of her 65th birthday.
NEWSTODAYNG recalls that Senator Tinubu, during her birthday on September 23 called on well-meaning Nigerians to donate for the project, which has faced decades of funding delays.
According to reports, notable individuals who have donated included President Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Senator Kashim Shettima, Business Moguls, Aliko Dangote, Abdulsamad Rabiu, among others.
Speaking on a popular national TV on Tuesday, Bode George explained that the first lady should have diverted the funds into a skills acquisition scheme to build the younger generation.
He said, “Now, something happened recently where the First Lady, Remi, decided that she wanted to build a National Library. She said that people should donate directly to her account. I beg you, I beg you, Remi, our First Lady, this is not on. It is not on.
“To build a National Library in two days? These are the things that I keep complaining about, these bankers have donated ₦20.7 billion and they mention their names.
“That money would have gone into a special fund, which I have been complaining about, to meet pressing needs skill acquisition programs to build the young generation.
“In fact, many of those graduates who have finished from universities have no homes, no jobs. I want to establish micro-groups, a very special fund. Instead of a library, tell your husband to set up this special fund”.
