Wike dismisses claims of genocide against Christians, accuses opposition of politicising insecurity

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described as unfortunate and misleading, the claims suggesting that Christians are being targeted in Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis, insisting that terrorism in the country affects all Nigerians such as Christians, Muslims and non-believers.

Speaking on a popular TV station, Wike said no responsible leader, including President Bola Tinubu, would condone the killing of citizens based on religion.

According to him, the President, whose wife is a senior pastor would not turn a blind eye to any act suggesting the elimination of any religious group.

Wike lamented that some opposition figures were exploiting the nation’s security challenges for political gain ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It is not true that there is a genocide against Christians in Nigeria, Terrorists are killing Christians, Muslims and even those who don’t belong to any faith.

“No reasonable leader will be happy about that. The President I know will never allow such a thing to happen under his watch.

“The problem we have today is that some people are trying to weaponize insecurity and turn it into a campaign strategy. We must not allow anyone to divide this country along religious or ethnic lines. Every life, Christian, Muslim or otherwise matters equally”.
