Ekiti Waste Mgt calls for calm, as Agency puts out fire at Ilokun Dump Site

Authorities of the Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, in partnership with the State’s Fire Services, have successfully controlled and put out the fire that broke out at the dump site in Ilokun area of Ado Ekiti.

The attention of the agency was drawn to the fire by some residents of the community who noticed thick smoke oozing out of the site.

Speaking with journalists, the Director-General, Waste Management Agency, Sunkanmi Onipede, confirmed that firefighters were mobilized to the site and have successfully put out the fire.

He confirmed that no damage was recorded due to the swift response of the officers of the agency.

According to him, the fire was as a result of heat generated from some of the waste materials in the dump site which he said was inevitable and synonymous to dry seasons.

He called on residents to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without any fear.
