The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council has announced its decision to inaugurate an annual public lecture in honour of one of the leading lights in the profession and first Chief Press Secretary in Ekiti State, Chief Akin Fasae.
The decision was announced by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, during the official presentation of a formal letter of notification to the beneficiary, Chief Akin Fasae.
Presenting the letter, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi explained that the decision was the resolution of the State Executive Council of the Union and approved by the National President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya.
According to him, the event will be titled; “Chief Biodun Akin Fasae Annual Lecture,” which will be delivered by a distinguished speaker, followed by a panel discussion and audience engagement.
He explained that the first edition will take place on the 26th of March, 2026, at Sanni Abacha Hall, Old Governor’s Office, Okebareke, Ado Ekiti, and will be delivered by the lawmaker representing Oye/Ikole at the National Assembly, Hon. Akintunde Rotimi.
The Chairman noted that the objective of the programme was to Celebrate the legacy and contributions of Chief Biodun Akin Fasae, Promote discourse on media professionalism, ethics and effective public communication, inspire journalists and public communication practitioners in Ekiti State and beyond.
Babatuyi added that the lecture would reinforce the importance of ethical journalism, strengthen public communication practices, and ensure the legacy of Chief Fasae continues to inspire future generations.
Responding, Chief Akin Fasae appreciated the leadership of NUJ for the idea, which he said was thoughtful and overwhelming.
He promised to continue to contribute his quota to the development of NUJ and the journalism profession.
