The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly recovered suspected wiretapping equipment in connection with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

According to reports, investigators obtained a court warrant authorizing the detention of the ex-governor for 14 days to allow for further questioning and forensic examination of the recovered devices.

Officials disclosed that the commission secured a lawful order to detain El-Rufai as part of an ongoing probe into allegations surrounding unauthorized surveillance activities.

It was also gathered that the warrant, is to enable investigators to analyze the recovered equipment and establish whether any laws were violated.

Legal analysts note that under Nigerian law, security agencies may seek court approval to detain a suspect beyond the usual timeframe where investigations are complex or involve sensitive materials.

Sources further claimed that the former governor declined to cooperate fully with investigators during initial questioning.

However, his legal team is yet to issue an official statement addressing the allegations or the reported detention order.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no formal public confirmation from El-Rufai’s representatives regarding the claims.
