The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, is battling a severe health crisis after a brutal assault during a pre-strike meeting in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

It was gathered that, Ajaero’s condition has deteriorated and the NLC is contemplating flying him abroad for extensive medical examination.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the incident unfolded on Wednesday when Ajaero was subjected to a violent attack, sparking outrage within the Labour community.

Speaking about the NLC President’s condition, Chris Onyeka, Assistant General Secretary of the NLC, expressed deep concern, stating that Ajaero’s health had taken a drastic turn for the worse.

Ajaero, who had initially been discharged from the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, is reportedly so weak that he can barely speak, and there are concerns that he may have been injected with an unknown substance during the attack.

Onyeka, in his capacity as Chief of Staff to the NLC President, stated, “The Congress President is in a very critical condition. He is so weak and can hardly talk. He almost passed out last night. The Congress is considering flying him abroad for a full medical examination.”

The circumstances surrounding the brutal assault have raised suspicions of foul play. Ajaero was reportedly not only beaten and brutalized but also had his belongings, including phones and money, confiscated. The extent of the injuries and the potential involvement of state authorities and the Imo State Police Command have led to the suspension of the labour action in Imo State.
