Dr. Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, has dispelled the stereotypes on female content consumption during a panel discussion at the 12th edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

Contrary to stereotypes, Dr. Tejumola revealed that women engage with a diverse range of genres beyond romance dramas.

According to her, women enjoy content spanning romance, drama, action, thrillers, sports, WWE, UFC, and even cartoons. Dr. Tejumola emphasized the significance of data-driven insights, stating, “It is important to note that data is power. We take pride in understanding our market and effectively targeting its diverse segments, offering something for everyone.”

Discussing the portrayal of women on reality TV, she emphasized that the content reflects real-life dynamics, while encouraged the industry to consider promoting narratives that highlight female leaders and heroes, contributing to shaping positive representations on screen.

Speaking on the panel’s theme, “Women in Film: Community Over Competition,” Dr. Tejumola underscored the value of mentorship, collaboration, and supportive communities within the industry. She hammered on the importance of finding mentors, coaches, and sponsors, both for personal growth and contributing to the development of others.

The panel also featured industry leaders such as Chioma Onyenwe, Mary Njoku, Chioma Ude, Uche Jombo, and Kem Anyanwu, addressing key aspects of the film industry and fostering a sense of community among women in film.
