The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed appreciation for the Senate’s decision to investigate alleged admission racketeering in universities, asserting confidence that the exam body will be vindicated.
Following a motion by Senator Onyeka Nwebonyi (Ebonyi North), the Senate agreed to probe allegations of admission irregularities in the nation’s universities.
Nwebonyi cited the case of Chinyere Ekwe at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), alleging collusion between university staff and JAMB officials in questionable practices.
JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, welcomed the Senate’s move, commending them for providing an opportunity for the exam body to present its defense.
Oloyede clarified that JAMB did not issue a provisional admission letter to the mentioned candidate and pledged cooperation with the Senate investigation, stating, “We will cooperate with the Senate.”
