Civil Society Group have accused FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike of gross abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.
The Concerned FCT Citizens in partnership with Civil Society Group made this known during a press conference held at Abuja on Sunday, tagged: “The State of the Union and the Activities of Mr Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister.”
The Group stated that the former Governor is favoring his associates from Rivers State in contract awards while utilizing public funds to sustain his opulent lifestyle.
The statement read in part “Mr Wike is not good for FCT minister team and he should be assigned to another ministry.
“We have allegations that Mr Wike has been awarding contracts to his friends and family members using public funds to finance his lifestyle. This is non acceptable behavior of any public officer let alone a minister of the federal government.
“We have reasons to believe that Mr Wike has been intimating and harassing political opponent, stiffing free speech and press freedom in the process. This is a clear violation of the fundamental human right.”
The Group urged all residents to join in the fight against corruption, stating that government officials should be held accountable and work for all citizens other than selected people.
“We must hold our public officers accountable and demand transparency and accountability in the management public resources.
“We must ensure that our government institutions are working for the benefit of all citizens not just a few selected people.” He said
The Group further called on President Bola Tinubu to look into the allegations and take appropriate actions against Wike if the allegations are found to be true.
