In a significant move to enhance digital skills and efficiency in the basic education sector, the Ekiti State Government, led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has distributed 1145 tablet devices to teachers across public primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
The tablets, once connected to the BAMIS (BESDA Attendance Management Information System) application, aim to facilitate digital attendance monitoring, improving service delivery and overall educational effectiveness.
During the official flag-off ceremony of a 5-day workshop on the Digitalization of Basic Education for Teachers, SUBEB, and LGEA Officials, Governor Oyebanji highlighted the importance of training participants on the use of the devices and application.
Emphasizing the role of professionalism and continuous skill acquisition in teaching, the Governor stressed the need to equip teachers with modern tools and ensure ongoing training on contemporary teaching and monitoring methods.
Represented by the SUBEB Executive Chairman, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, Governor Oyebanji expressed confidence that the training on the BAMIS system would contribute to reducing the Out of School Children Phenomenon in the state. He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to collaborate with education stakeholders, including UBEC and the Federal Ministry of Education, to enhance the skills and capacity of teachers in the basic education sector.
Prof. Femi Akinwumi, described digitalization as a current approach to address issues related to outdated methods of data gathering and storage. He urged teachers to view the tablets as motivation for dedication to their duties, emphasizing the importance of proper maintenance to justify the government’s investment and prevent resource wastage.
