…empowers 2 survivors with industrial logistics
A Group advocating against infringement on human rights, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) on Tuesday flagged off a 16-day activism against gender-based violence in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
The project themed: “Unite! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls” was flagged by the Ekiti Commissioner of Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Peju Babafemi, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Omotayo Olatilu.
The group, which commenced the project on Saturday, 25th November, 2023 is in partnership with Office of Ekiti State First Lady, Ministry of Women Affairs, Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence, Ministry of Justice, FIDA, among others.
According to the State Project Coordinator, Osilade Wole said “the collaborative efforts of the scheme was reflected through the funded capacity building of 75 GBV responders from different cadres including government staff, facility workers, community based Organisation staff, Civil Society Organizations, Non-governmental organisations, MDAs and other relevant key stakeholders in the state.”
Osilade noted that 15 identified survivors have been provided with tangible and life changing services with an outcome of improved wellbeing.
“We have been able to bring all of the key stakeholders to flag off the 16 days activism for Ekiti State and we are very honoured to have permanent secretary of Ministry of women Affairs and social development to do the flag off.
“Every participant that is leaving here today at least have shown clearly that they have learnt one or two things.” He added
The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Women Affairs hailed the Group for bringing such Project to Ekiti State, saying they have been projecting the vision of the first lady, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji towards eradicating GBV in Ekiti.
While charging the participants to invest in their commitment and skills to end GBV in the society, she urged Ekiti residents to say no any domestic violence as it is against the law of the land.
The group also empowered two survivors of gender-based violence in the State, Ogunmilade Aderonke and Musa Memunat as parts of its efforts to ensure that they are strengthened economically.
Also present at the flag-off campaign were Adeyemo Dupe representing Civil Defence, Opeyemi Osanyinro representing NPF, Atane Edabo Shirley, representing Ministry of Justice, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, among others.
The mega walk of the campaign across the state capital will take place on Monday, 11th December, 2023.
