A social media activist, Reno Omokri, has issued a stern warning, stating that Nigeria might regress to the post-January 15, 1966 era if appropriate measures are not taken against soldiers who recorded and published disrespectful videos against Lagos State Governor’s arrest order.

He noted that this period was marked by a breakdown in military discipline and a consequential erosion of the chain of command.

NEWSTODAYNG recalled that the soldiers filmed themselves in defiance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s arrest order regarding a fellow soldier riding a motorcycle against traffic.

Omokri emphasized that the disrespectful videos are not only an affront to the Governor but also a violation of the Constitution.

Expressing his discontent via his X handle, Omokri labeled the video as “distasteful and disrespectful,” stressing that it can not be ignored.

He asserted that the young man involved must face military consequences to set an example for others witnessing such behaviour.

Omokri contended that failure to sanction the soldier could lead to an increase in such unruly actions, ultimately opening a Pandora’s Box of disorder.

In his statement, Omokri underscored the potential danger of allowing members of the military to act with impunity, particularly those with access to weapons. He argued that soldiers must exercise control over their words, as an inability to do so might extend to a lack of control over their weapons.

The activist concluded by emphasizing the need for swift and decisive action to prevent the escalation of indiscipline within the military ranks.
