The Afe Babalola University, Ado- Ekiti, (ABUAD), has revealed that 1,673 students will be convocating at the 10th Unbroken Convocation slated to hold on Friday, 21st October 2022, which will be rounded off with the Founder’s dinner and Awards night, where prizes will be given for Academic Excellence to the worthy and deserving Ambassadors.
According to the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof E. Smaranda Olarinde, Honorary degrees will be conferred on three eminent personalities; Engr. Segun Oni, B. Eng, MBA, former Governor of Ekiti State, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Abu Bakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, Shehu of Borno, and Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, OFR, CON in appreciation of the various ways they have impacted the society.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday, 17th October, Prof. Smaranda, stated that “At ABUAD, we are resolute and remain determined in our quest to avail the next generation of Nigerians with functional and qualitative education wherein they can be national and global citizens of high impact, well prepared for the contemporary challenges.”
The varsity which has graduated 9 sets of students since the first set of 139 students graduated on October 21, 2013, will be graduating 1,418 Bachelor and 255 Postgraduate students, with 121 first-class and no fewer than 666 second-class graduates.
Three prominent individuals, former Governor of Ekiti State and Gubernatorial candidate in SDP, Chief Segun Oni, His Royal Majesty, Dr Abubakar Al Amin El Kanemi, Shehu of Borno and a legal luminary cum human right lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, OFR, CON would be conferred with honourary degrees.
Various events have been lined up to hold in preparation for the Convocation Ceremony which includes, the Induction and Oath taking ceremony of the Computer Graduating students which will be conducted by the Computer Professionals, the Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) and will be followed later in the afternoon by the Investiture of the Law Students as Associate Members of the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.
On Wednesday, October 19, the 7th set of the varsity’s Engineering Graduating Students will have their Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) Induction/Oath taking ceremony. And will be followed by the induction of the new Graduating Students as members of the Alumni Association of the University.
The Convocation lecture will also hold on Thursday, October 20, 2022. And the lecture will be delivered by Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, a leading Constitutional Lawyer, Human Rights Activist, Pro-Democracy Campaigner, and a voice to the voiceless, on “THE PLACE OF EDUCATION IN A CRISIS-RIDDEN NIGERIA.”
