Akeredolu’s Family pays homage to Ekiti Monarch ahead of DIG’s Burial

The family of late retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Theophilus Adetunji Akeredolu, paid a homage visit to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe (Aladesanmi III), on Friday ahead of the burial of the elder statesman in Ekiti State scheduled for Saturday in Ikere-Ekiti.

Receiving the family at his palace in Ado-Ekiti, the monarch described the late DIG Akeredolu as a distinguished and accomplished individual who made impactful contributions during his lifetime.

The traditional Monarch commended them for returning home to bury their patriarch, encouraging the family to continue to maintain strong ties with Ekiti State, expressing optimism about the state’s future development.

“I am glad to welcome you to my palace. DIG Akeredolu was a great person. It would be good if someone does not die on earth, but he did very well while he was here.

“We thank you and we are grateful for this visit. Try as much as possible to visit Ekiti often. By the time you come next, it will be more developed than this,” the monarch added.

Late DIG Theophilus Adetunji Akeredolu passed away on December 9, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born on October 25, 1942, he was a renowned scholar and seasoned security professional who served the Nigeria Police Force for decades.

He began his career as a civilian lecturer before enlisting in the police in 1969 and converting to a General Duty officer in 1973.

During his distinguished career, Akeredolu served in various strategic capacities and earned national recognition, including the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award.

Akeredolu was an alumnus of the University of Lagos and the University of Ilorin and also played a notable traditional role as the Chief Aremo of Afao, Ikere-Ekiti.He is survived by his wife, Yemi Akeredolu and his children.
