The founder, House of Faith, Ado Ekiti, Reverend Tunde Afe has admonish4eed Journalists in the state to shun mundane pursuits, but live good and joyous lives, stressing that this would guarantee them longevity.
He said this during a Thanksgiving Service held in his Church by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, to mark the end of the weeklong activities of the 2022 Press Week, stating that the only way to confront the current economic depression is for Nigerians to embrace simple lifestyle.
Reverend Afe attributed sorrow and depression among many households to attempt to amass needless wealth. According to him,” it is dangerous for anyone to build his or her happiness around material things
The church leader used the occasion to offer prayers for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria and for safety of journalists.
Drawing inspiration from the book of Psalm, Chapter one hundred verses one to five, Reverend Afe charged the congregation to be content with whatever God has given them and never to compete with anyone.
Reverend Afe noted that the current economic crisis is a global phenomenon, and everyone must learn to deal with it.
“Things will get worse; the economic problem is global so take your heart away from material things and choose to be joyful. Your focus must be how powerful awesome and great your God is.
He said: “As long as you keep comparing your life with others you will continue to have problem. Your joy must not be built on money or material things.
“Don’t allow anything to tamper with your joy, it has even been discovered that a lot of diseases are associated with stress, sorrow and depression.
“Joy chases away depression, mental health, sickness and every other evil, you need joy to receive from God, a joyful person is always optimistic.
According to him, being joyful has both spiritual and health benefits, hence he urged Christians not to compete with anyone in life or live to impress others, saying such attitude were major things that have stolen the joy of many.
Afe added that, it had been medically proven that ” many diseases are associated with stress, depression and sorrow. Joy and sorrow cannot cohabit. Economic depression is a global scenario. A joyful heart is good medicine. Gloom and doom leave you bone tired. Old age doesn’t kill Joy is the fruit of the spirit ”
The Chairman, NUJ Ekiti State, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela who spoke through the secretary, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi described Reverend Afe as friend of Journalists- and strong supporter of the NUJ.
The chairman used the occasion to show appreciation to the cleric for his various interventions to the union.
