The Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Western Zone, Mr Dele Tajudeen has revealed that non-functional refineries in the country is part of the reason for scarcity of Premuum Motor Spirit (PMS).
Dele made this known on Monday while speaking on the lingering fuel scarcity across the nation.
According to him, if the country refines her petroleum, the cost of logistics and other expenses incurred in importing would be reduced.
Dele added that IPMAN is not taking advantage of the current fuel scarcity in the country as the scarcity is affecting both average Nigerians and Marketers.
“What we are buying is above the normal price so we cannot sell at government regulated price. It is either we buy what we sell or close our stations. The profit we make is not in correspondent with the capital employed” he said.
He therefore urged the government to ensure all four refineries are working and monitor all pipelines in the country to avoid vandalisation so as to tackle fuel scarcity.
