Coalition of Chairmen of Political Parties in the country have threatened to boycott the 2023 general elections if the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, suspends the naira redesign policy.
At a World Press Conference in Abuja, on Monday, National Chairman of Action Alliance, Kenneth Udeze, said 13 out of the 18 registered political parties will withdraw their participation in the electoral process if President Muhammadu Buhari heed to the demands of some governors.
He accused governors of Rivers, Kaduna, Kano, Ondo and Lagos states of trying to stage protests in the country against the policy while calling on the security agents to put them on security watch list.
“We hereby announce our resolutions that at least 13 out of the 18 political parties in Nigeria will not be interested in the 2023 elections and indeed we shall withdraw our participation from the electoral processes if the currency policies are suspended or canceled or if the deadline is further shifted.
“We hereby warn the security agencies to put these governors on watch list as quickly as possible. We say ita not for the people that they are fighting. This is not a true reflection of situation on ground.
“Mr President, if you fall for their gimmicks and tamper with this policy, it will only mean you cannot fulfil your promise. Nigerian political parties will therefore in such situation boycott the elections as we cannot guarantee the credibility of election where people can access illicit funds to buy votes and compromise the electoral officials.”
