Bayern Munich have suspended and fined forward Sadio Mane who reportedly punched team-mate, Leroy Sane in the face following the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The club made this known in a statement released on Wednesday, inciting misconduct on his part.

“Sadio Mane, 31, will not be in the Bayern squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday.

“The reason is misconduct by Mane after Bayern’s Champions League game at Manchester City. In addition, Mane will receive a fine.”

Mane’s anger was reported to be triggered by a moment in the 83rd minute of the match at the Etihad Stadium where Sane was seemingly unhappy with him because he did not offer himself as a passing option, instead waiting for a through ball. As a result, both players began a verbal argument on the pitch.

Mane reportedly gave Sane a bloody lip in the Bayern dressing room after the game. As the two players had to be separated by their team-mates.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel did not mention any exchange between Mane and Sane in the dressing room after the match, but instead said he “fell in love” with his team despite the 3-0 defeat.

“Of course, the result is bitter for us,” he told reporters.

“I fell in love with my team a little today, the way they performed. Even if it sounds strange, that was a lot of fun.” He said.
