The chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olukoyede Olanipekun has charged religious leaders in the country to be accountable on their source of income and desist from shielding corrupt individuals.
Speaking with journalists, the EFCC Boss recalled the recent achievements of the agency where millions of naira were recovered from a religious organization without a genuine source of income.
He knocked religious leaders who live on the income of worshippers, stressing that they have no right to hold public officers accountable if they don’t follow suit.
His words, “Let us use our podium not only to preach but to demonstrate. I remember how we recovered millions from a religious organization. Pastors live on the income of the worshippers, ministry, mosque , you don’t have a source of income of your own, you can’t explain the source of your wealth.
”If you are not accountable as a religious leader, you don’t expect a public office holder to be.
”We preach this thing on the altar but under our nose, the same thing happens but we cover it up because it’s our own”.
