…says they are out to rid Ekiti of criminals

Men of the EKiti State Amotekun have arrested five suspected fake prophets for duping one Udanyi James of the sum of N2.5 million naira.
The Commander of Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Brigadier-General Joel Komolafe during the parade of the suspects on Thursday said that they were arrested in their shrine in Ikere-Ekiti on Tuesday night, 15th November, 2022.
He also revealed that they duped the victim who resides in Ogun State of the sum of N2.5 million.
In his words: “The five suspects were arrested yesterday night at a location in Ikere-Ekiti, they are serial fraudsters, they dupe people around, they call themselves ‘Awojegene’.
“So, they will call you and tell you they have seen vision for you, for your life to be okay, you have to bring this and that. They duped the complainant to the extent of threatening him that he will lose all the members of his family.
“Ekiti Amotekun was alerted of their activities when my colleague in Ogun State called me and told me that someone residing in Ogun State was duped to the tune of N2.5 million by some group in IKERE and they threatened to kill him, I should please assist.
“We started from there, and God gave us success and we were able to arrest them yesterday evening in their shrine. We were able to destroy part of the static shrine, we even brought some of the things they use in deceiving people.
Confirming that he was duped of the said amount, the victim, Udanyi James, a farmer who is the Chairman, Igede Community in Ogun State narrated his ordeal, explaining that one of the fraudsters called him and told him to send some money to him in order to engage in traditional prayers for him.
According to him, since then he had been sending money to him up to the tune of over two point five millions naira before he declined to respond to their calls.
He said they later threatened that if he refused to send more money that he would die, hence he reported the matter to Amotekun officials in Ogun State which led to their arrest.
Commander Komolafe who stated that the 5 suspects would be sent to the Ogun state Amotekun where the victim they defrauded resides also noted that Ekiti Amotekun is out to get other criminals.
“These are not the only people, these are just a fraction of the people we are looking for in the state, we have been to Atikunkun, to arrest some of them, we have gone to Ilekereke and we are going to continue because we know that this guy’s are more than this, this is just a location; a shrine we went to in Ikere, we will soon visit other shrines.”
