The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji has called on the Unions in the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) to cooperate with the Council and the management of the Institution in order to settle the crisis that is paralysing the academic calendar of the University.
Oyebanji stated this in his address on Thursday during the 27th Convocation Ceremony in the Institution for the Awards of Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctorate degrees.
The Governor, who is also a Visitor and Alumnus of the Institution, noted that the reputation of the Institution is at stake, urging Governing Council and Management to devise better strategies and bring resolution to the lingering issues.
According to him, “There have been many instabilities in the calendar of the Institution. For example, strike, student’s protest, we need to have a new direction for a good structure.
“The reputation of the University is at stake and we must cut these activism and ensure resolution with cooperation which foster respect and understanding.
“I therefore appeal to the Unions in the University to cooperate with the Council and the management to resolve this issue.” He said
Earlier on Tuesday during the Convocation Lecture, the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Edward Olanipekun said the University is putting every mechanisms in place to make the system sustainable to all stakeholders.
The VC added that the Management has decided to have a stakeholders’ summit with Parents, Students, and other stakeholders for way forward.
However, 207 Graduands were convoked in the College of Postgraduate Studies, with 63 Graduands for the Awards of Postgraduate Diploma, 86 for Masters and 58 for Doctorate degrees.
