Chukwuemeka Christopher, a first-class graduate of Nnamdi Azikwe University, has expressed his disappointment online after receiving a cash prize of N20,000 for his outstanding academic accomplishments.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the graduate, who achieved a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.86/5.0 in the Department of Mathematics, took to Twitter to express his frustration.
Christopher’s tweet, which included a photo of the modest prize check he received from the university, quickly went viral, garnering over 10,000 likes, 3,000 retweets, and numerous comments from empathetic Nigerians who echoed his concerns about the country’s education system.
In his tweet, he stated, “So, just clocked that I graduated as the best student in my department and the faculty with a CGPA of 4.86/5. And for this feat, I was awarded a whopping sum of #20k. That is less than $20. Yes, you read that right. Twenty dollars.”
He emphasized that it’s not about the money but rather the knowledge, experiences, and memories gained during his academic journey. In a show of solidarity with fellow bright but financially challenged graduates, he encouraged them to keep their dreams big and their wallets small.
