The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at the former governor of the State, Rotimi Amaechi over alleged manipulation of the Rivers State governorship election by Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

This is coming after Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared Wike’s anointed
Candidate, Siminialayi Fubara winner of Rivers State gubernatorial race.

The Former Federal Minister of Transportation had accused INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu of conducting the worse Electoral process in the history of the country, alleging that he was nominated for the Commission’s job by the President-elect, Tinubu’s group.

Wike also debunked Amaechi’s claim that the INEC Chairman had worked under him during his reign as the Minister of State for Education.

According to him, “While Amaechi was the Federal Minister of Transportation of Nigeria from 2015-2022, he could not record a 25% win for President Muhammad Buhari in Rivers State during the both Presidential elections(2015/2019).

“Amaechi alleged that the INEC Chairman conducted the worse Election in the history of Nigerian Electoral exercise because the Candidate under my party won the election.

“The INEC Chair, Professor Mahmood Yakubu never worked under me before I assumed office as the Governor of Rivers State into 2015.

“In 2015, I defeated him as sitting Governor, in 2019, my party defeated his senatorial ambition and in 2023, we defeated him again as an ordinary person.”
