The Williams sisters were eliminated by the Czech pair Lucie Hradecká and Linda Nosková on their first U.S. Open doubles after 4½ years of being paired together.
Williams, who turns 41 this month, was knocked out in the third round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on Friday night in a hard-fought match with Ajla Tomljanovic, 29, from Australia.
The 40-year-old legend of the sport was in tears at the end of the game but insisted they were ‘happy’ as she credited her sister, Venus Williams for her rise in Tennis.
In a last game that went on for nearly fifteen minutes, she saved five match points, reeling off a series of forehand winners.
