Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen, has denied stepping down as the interim coach of the Super Eagles after the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Eguavoen was appointed by the NFF to take charge of the two games following the inability of the federation to secure the services of German coach, Bruno Labbadia, over what they call stringent German tax laws.
Many media organisations had reported that the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen has stepped aside after managing the Super Eagles in the match day 1&2 of the 2025 African Nations Cup qualifier games against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Speaking immediately after their arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja, he said: “It’s just unfortunate that people just triggered something that is not correct and the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories.
” I only talked about, I am going to sit down with the hierarchy of the Federation after this two games and how I will be prosecuting the next games”.
Nigeria are topping the Group D with four points from two games. Having defeated Benin Republic 3-0 in Uyo on Saturday, the three times African champions played a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
