An African man identified as Anthony Broadwater who was wrongly accused of rape by British author, Alice Sebold has been exonerated after spending 16years in prison.

The rape which took place when she was a college student, years before she became famous led to the detention of Anthony Broadwater after Sebold identified him as her rapist.

A video showed Broadwater shedding tears of joy as the judge exonerated him of the charge.

The Accuser, Alice Sebold, Author of The Lovely Bones has however issued a public apology to the victim but Broadwater stated that no apology can change what has already happened.

In her words, “I am sorry most of all for the fact that the life you could have led was unjustly robbed from you. And I know that no apology can change what happened to you and never will.”

Meanwhile, Broadwater later accepted her apology, saying “Sincerely from my heart, I accept the apology.”
