The Chairman, National Association of Government Medical and Dental Practitioners ( NAGGMDP), Ekiti State Chapter, Dr. Alo Akinleye has denied making inciteful statements against Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s led administration.

Akinleye, who said this at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday, denied the allegation of insensitivity against Governor Oyebanji as published by a popular and influential online newspaper on March 16th, 2023.

According to him, “what i said during the interview, was that Governor Oyebanji who has only spent a couple of months in office, has shown commitment to improving the welfare of Doctors and resolving the issues that have lingered from the past administration.’

However, the online newspaper wrote “Mr Akinleye said the Governor who has only spent a couple of months in office has NOT shown commitment to improving the welfare of doctors and resolving the issues that have lingered from the past administration.”

He further stated that the insertion of the word “NOT” changed the entire tune, tone and complexion of the interview which was meant to draw attention to the state of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare levels of the State.

He noted that Governor Oyebanji had appraised the problems and made commitment to resolve the issue, promising to bridge the financial gap between the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti and Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti by 50 percent as soon as the state is financially buoyant.

Akinleye also added that the association had resolved to give the administration a month to implement its promises as it does not doubt the sincerity and commitment of the Governor.

He further pleaded with the Governor to ensure that Ekiti State Health sector be made attractive for young doctors, adding that lack of renumeration and level of coverage is an issue as most of the health facilities had just one doctor thereby making doctors leave for greener pastures.
