Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of Ekiti State has assured Corp members deployed to the state of their safety while carrying out their national duties during the forthcoming general elections, citing the readiness of different security agencies during the election period.
Oyebanji, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Tola Faseluka made this statement in his keynote address at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch A, Stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state.
The Governor also urged corps members to leverage the Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme in order to mitigate the issue of unemployment ravaging the world.
In his words, “Ensure you make use of the security outfit numbers given to you whenever you are in distress.
“I urge you to put all the lessons you have learnt into effective and productive use. Harness the Skills and Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme you have learnt to better your lives and teach citizens of the state on how to acquire theirs.”
In the same vein, the Director General of NYSC, General YD Ahmed who was represented by the State Coordinator NYSC Ekiti State Mrs Chikezie Mary Nnenna also spoke at the occasion. He reiterated his commitment to corp members on security. He, however, encouraged them to play their own part in ensuring their safety during the national service year so has not to jeopardise their lives.
Accordingly to him, “On our part, we are committed to making adequate provision for your security and general welfare in line with the policy thrust of my administration. Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders .
Advising the Corp members further, he admonished them to take SAED training seriously, avoid the wrong use of social media, desist from unauthorised and frivolous travelling and any act that can portray the scheme in a bad light.
He appealed to corp employers to always accept corp members posted to them and make provisions for their welfare.
Also present at the event are the traditional Rulers of Emure and Orun who were ably represented, the DPOs of Ise and Orun, the Camp Director, the Camp Commandant and others.
