…records 300, 400 dead, bedridden members

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners(NUP), Ekiti State has called on the Executive Governor of the state, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to offset over N40 billion naira that the state government is owing pensioners of local and state governments.

The Union made this call in Ado-Ekiti, during an interdenominational prayer for the just inaugurated Governor in the State.

According to the Chairman of the Union, Joel Akinola, over three hundred of their members have died in the last four years without collecting their entitlements while over four hundred are bedridden and lack money to take care of themselves.

The interdenominational prayer, which was held at the Secretariat of the union in Ado Ekiti was basically to seek the assistance and guidance of God for the new Governor to surpass the achievements of his predecessors.

In his sermon, Pastor Isaac Ayodele Ojo explained that only God can touch the heart of the Governor to see to the need of the pensioners, hence the need for the prayer.

He expressed dissatisfaction with how leaders often deny retirees their benefits after they have served the state with the better part of their lives.

Also, the Chief Imam of Ansar-Ur-Deen Central Mosque, Ado Ekiti, Abdul Mutolib Mohammed expressed hope that Governor Biodun Oyebanji would perform excellently and charged residents of the state to continue to pray for him.

Joel Akinola thereby appealed to the Oyebanji to only build on the good legacy of Governor Fayemi.
