Fawekun Abiodun Babatunde of All Progressive Congress, APC has been declared winner in the just concluded supplementary election for Ido/Osi State Constituency I of the state house of assembly elections held on Saturday in Ekiti state.
Fawekun, in a statement signed by Head of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, Ekiti State, Temitope Akanmu, polled 4764 votes to defeat his closest Rival, Fadahunsi Muyiwa Ishola, of Social Democratic Party, SDP who recorded 4204 votes.
However, the turn out of residents of Ido-Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Government Area for the supplementary Ekiti House Assembly poll was low.
The three polling units which include Unit three , eight and 14 in ward one in Ido-Ekiti were the only units where the election was currently holding.
The staff of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were effective in carrying their duties while the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was functioning properly at the various units.
The security agencies such as the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) and Nigerian Military and Amotekun Corps were patrolling the community and various polling units to maintain free and fair election.
Reacting, the Chairman of Ido-Osi Local Government Area, Dr Lawrence Ogunsina, said that the election process has been free, fair and credible since the the voting started 8.00am.
The chairman said the turn out of voters was low because of the three polling units that are majorly concerned in the supplementary election.
He commended the security agencies for their diligent operations to ensure rancor free election and to also maintain peaceful environment.
” The election so far as been peaceful, free and fair, the turnout was low but I believe it is because of the three concerned polling units where election will be holding that is why low turn was recorded.
“The BIVAS has been functioning properly and the INEC staff has been very active, efficient in discharging their duties at the three polling units.
” I want to also commend our security agencies for the good job they are currently undergoing in Ido-Osi Local Government, they are fully available to maintain orderliness and peace,” he said.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the general environment of the nook and cranny of Ido-Ekiti has been peaceful since the voting and accreditation started 8.00am.
The indigenes and residents were busy with their daily business while the town was relatively quiet in some quarters of the town.
