The Nigeria Police on Monday disclosed that over 700 persons were arrested for various electoral offences during the just-concluded 2023 general elections.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba made the disclosure during a meeting with Commissioners of Police from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT, as well as other senior officers.

According to the IGP, a total of 489 major electoral infractions leading to the arrest of 781 offenders has been recorded during the presidential, national assembly, the governorship and state assembly elections while not less than 66 firearm of various description were recovered from electoral adversaries.

Speaking on, the IGP stated that meeting with the Commissioners and other leaders within the force has become imperative in order to tackle threats capable of destabilising the current peaceful state of the country after the elections.

He condemned political ethnic propaganda fueled by political actors to advance their interests. He urged Nigerians to maintain unity and peaceful coexistence.
