…as electoral secretary makes a U-turn says he didn’t say election was cancelled

The Electoral chairman of the just concluded Federation of Ekiti State Students Union election Comrade Michael Ayeni has described the claims of the secretary of the electoral body that the election that produced comrade Abel Ajibade as president was canceled as lies and such should be disregarded by the public.
In a telephone chat with the chairman FESSU electoral body Comrade Michael Ayeni, he debunked the claims of the electoral secretary and maintained that the election was conducted in Ilawe – Ekiti in the presence of all the stakeholders and the winner was duly announced after sorting and counting of the ballot papers.
In his own words, the Public Relations Officer of the body Comrade Afolarin Peter said the secretary of the union has no constitutional backing to declare the election canceled or otherwise.
“I can confirm to you that we conducted an election which was credible, free and fair and very open to all. What happened was that the secretary of the body refused to show up on the election day for reasons best known to him, we were 7 in number and he was the only person that absented himself without prior notice and according to the constitution of FESSU we can can only forfeit the election if we didn’t make two-third of the electoral body and fortunately we were even more than the stipulated numbers the constitution demanded.
”So if he is staging any complain he is on his own and not acting on the orders of the union or the electoral body” He concluded.

Meanwhile, the embattled Secretary of the electoral body Mayowa Olajide has made a u- turn on his earlier stand that the election was canceled.
According to Olajide, he was quoted out of context and that he never said the election was canceled but that he did not participate in the elections of the union and as such did not know if any election took place.
This was in contrast to the earlier reports making round in a statement signed by him where he stated that the election of comrade Abel was canceled.
In a related development, the President elect Federation of Ekiti State Student Union, FESSU, Abel Adewale Ajibade has laughed off the position of the erstwhile electoral secretary while affirming his victory and promising to work assiduously to promote the affairs of the students in Ekiti and abroad.
Comrade Abel popularly known as ‘General Miami’ earlier paid a visit to the NUJ Chairman comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela as part of his familiarization tour in the state.
