A Non Governmental Organisation under the auspices of Movement for Accountability and Transparency (MFAT) has commended the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa over his plans to rebuild the 30-year old Alagbaka Government Staff quarters.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Akure on Tuesday by the NGO’s state coordinator, Dr Oladimeji Olaleye.
The NGO applauded the developmental strides of the state governor, saying the move is a testament of his determination to transform the State through massive infrastructural development with its attendant value chain opportunities, such as employment and empowerment.
Dr Olaleye, noted that the rebuilding of the dilapidated structure, will further enhance the livelihood of workers in the state.Aside from this, the NGO also enjoined Aiyedatiwa to commence the building of massive low income houses across the 18 local government areas of the state and make it accessible to lower income earners.
This, according to them would enable people at the lower rung of the ladder to have access to quality housing at a subsidized rate, as a result of the unbearable costs of building materials.
Dr Olaleye noted that the project would also provide job opportunities for indigenes which would further bolster the state’s economy.
The statement reads, “The plans to rebuild Alagbaka Government Staff Quarters by the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a testament that he has the welfare of the state and it’s citizens at heart.
“This 30-year old structures, which have been in dilapidated condition for many years without intervention from the successive governments have been a source of concern to the civil servants and other citizens interested in low income housing, wondering if the gods of the land have forsaken them.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa should be applauded for deeming it fit to pull down the old structures and replace it with ultramodern ones with facilities befitting a twenty-first century housing estate.
“Like Oliver Twist, aside from rebuilding those old structures, the Ondo State Government should invest in affordable housing especially now that building materials are extremely expensive.
“They should start building low income houses and make it accessible to lower income earners and it should be spread across the 18 local government areas of the state.
“One of the ways the government can provide massive job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state is through infrastructural development like is through housing, roads construction and others.
“Irrespective of the ill sayings by some organizations, we stand with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on this move because we believe it will benefit the entire workforce of the state”.
