High Court Judge faces N200m lawsuit in Ekiti over adultery scandal

Adebayo Adenrele

Ekiti State High Court Judge, Justice Oluwasegun Isaac Ogunyemi is currently facing N200m legal battle over alleged adultery scandal.

Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti after the first hearing of his application in the Ekiti State High Court, the petitioner, Prof Babalola Abegunde alleged that Justice Ogunyemi was the brain behind the breakdown of his marriage to the first respondent, Oluwatoyin Olayemi Abegunde, nee Olorunshola, who is a lawyer.

Abegunde claimed that he had prayed the court for the dissolution of the marriage on the ground of adultery and non consummation of the marriage and intolerable behaviours.

He also asked for the custody of the last child of the marriage as well as damages to the tune of #200m against the second respondent, Justice Oluwasegun Ogunyemi, for committing adultery with the first respondent which made the marriage intolerable.

Prof Abegunde explained that the court, presided over by Justice Niyi Familoni, after hearing their application, advised the parties to regularise their processes, while also expressing confidence in the judge, but he demanded fairness in the adjudication.

The matter has been adjourned to Friday 24th October, 2025 for further hearing.
