A Russian couple, Roman and Anna Novak who became famous for their lavish lifestyle in Dubai, were found buried in the desert after disappearing for a month.
According to reports, the two traveled to meet with unidentified investors in the Hatta region, near the border with Oman, where they disappeared.
Their relatives in Russia alerted the authorities and investigation revealed that the couple were taken by force, held in rented apartments and then brutally murdered with their bodies dismembered.
Svetlana Petrenko, of the Russian Investigative Committee, said: “The killers rented vehicles and hiding places where the victims were held against their will. After the murder, the killers got rid of the knives and personal belongings of the victims.”
The suspects are suspected of fleeing to Russia afterwards. Three men have been arrested: Konstantin Shakht, a former police officer, Vladimir Delkin and Yuri Sharipov. They are being held until the end of December while authorities in Russia and the United Arab Emirates cooperate with the investigation.
Police sources say the motive for the murder was cryptocurrency-related extortion, after Roman was suspected of stealing more than half a million dollars from investors in Asia and the Middle East
