An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro in Ilorin, Kwara State, has dissolved the marriage between Bashirat Mohammed and her husband, Toyin Ajibola, following a petition by the wife over persistent financial hardship.

Bashirat, who approached the court seeking dissolution of the union, told the presiding judge that she was no longer willing to continue in the marriage due to her husband’s inability to adequately provide for the family.

She described her situation as unbearable, stressing that the constant struggle for financial stability had taken a toll on her wellbeing.

“I want the court to grant me divorce so that I can have rest of mind” she had pleaded

In his response, Ajibola expressed his desire to sustain the marriage but admitted facing serious financial difficulties.

He told the court that he had been making efforts to meet his responsibilities but had been unsuccessful due to his limited means.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Hammad Ajumonbi dissolved the marriage, saying it would be unjust to compel the wife to remain in a union where she felt distressed and unsupported.

The judge also granted custody of the couple’s three children to the wife, while directing the husband to continue to take responsibility for their feeding and welfare to the best of his ability.
