Ekiti APC NASS Primary: Akinlayo denies alleged sponsorship of thugs

Adebayo Adenrele

The lawmaker representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Akinlayo Kolawole Davidson, has dismissed allegations linking him to an alleged plot to sponsor thugs to disrupt the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly primary election scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Recall that the Ekiti State Police Command on Friday paraded an ex-aide to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other 10 suspects over allegation of armed thuggery targeted at disrupting the electoral exercise.

In a statement issued and signed personally by the lawmaker the lawmaker described the claims as malicious baseless and the handiwork of political opponents seeking to damage his reputation ahead of the party’s primary election.

The federal lawmaker stated that the allegation was entirely false and should be disregarded by party members and the public.

He maintained that he has never sponsored, encouraged or associated himself with any act capable of disrupting the peace and integrity of the party’s internal electoral process.

Akinlayo also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and investigate individuals allegedly spreading false information capable of creating tension within the party.

The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and baseless allegation making the rounds that the Honourable Member representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Hon. Akinlayo Kolawole Davidson, is sponsoring thugs to disrupt the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

“We wish to categorically state that this allegation is entirely false, misleading, and the handiwork of desperate political detractors who are bent on tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of the lawmaker.

“Hon. Akinlayo Kolawole Davidson is a committed democrat, a peaceful leader, and a loyal party man who has consistently advocated for credible, transparent, and violence-free electoral processes within the APC and beyond.

“At no point has he encouraged, financed, or associated himself with any act capable of undermining the peace and integrity of the party’s primary election.

“It is important to note that Hon. Kolawole remains focused on strengthening party unity, promoting internal democracy, and ensuring that all aspirants and their supporters conduct themselves responsibly before, during, and after the primary election.

“We therefore urge party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the unfounded allegation in its entirety, as it exists only in the imagination of those seeking cheap political advantage through misinformation and character assassination.

“We also call on security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that anyone attempting to cause violence or spread falsehood capable of creating tension within the party is investigated and brought to justice.

“Hon. Akinlayo Kolawole Davidson remains committed to peace, progress, and the continued development of Ekiti North Federal Constituency II and Ekiti Stat at large”.
