Switzerland has managed to stop Lionel Messi’s consecutive goal scoring spell in the ongoing 2026 World Cup but was overwhelmed by the 3-1 defeat to Argentina after the extra time.

Recall that Lionel Messi has always been on the scoring sheet since the group stage but failed to register a goal to his name against Switzerland despite his team advancing to the Semi final against England.

Mac Allister’s goal gave Argentina the lead in the first half before it was returned to 1-1 by Ndoye in the second half.

Julian Alvarez’s first goal in this year’s tournament gave Argentina the decisive lead before Lautaro Martinez sealed it for the Argentines just before the end of the extra time.

As it stands, Argentina will brawl with England in the Semi finals while France will face Spain.

Mbappe still leads the scoring sheet with 8 goals and four assists, Messi follows with 8 goals, zero assist while Haaland, who is their contender with seven goals has been struck out of the World Cup after Norway’s 2-11 defeat to England.
