The vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has confirmed that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, signed a written agreement to serve only one four-year term if elected as president in the forthcoming presidential poll.

Kwankwaso disclosed this on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television, saying the one-term arrangement was not merely based on trust but had been formally documented.

According to him, both leaders signed separate written agreements to cement the commitment as part of the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso also expressed confidence in the commitment of the party’s supporters, saying they were motivated by conviction rather than financial inducements often associated with elections.

“We are all gentlemen. Even though we have accepted to put it even on paper. We have done one for the party, and we have done another one between the two of us.

“Our supporters are not just merely people who are looking for money or who are looking for textile or food items on the day of election. These are people who are determined not only to vote but to make sure that the votes are being protected.

“We are praying that all of us should see 2027 and, of course, 2031. We will look at the circumstances and see what can be done, but by the grace of God, I believe our party (NDC) and of course my humble self and His Excellency Peter Obi, have a short-term plan which we are executing now.

“Of course, we also have our medium and long-term plans for the country. That is what we are working on now”.
