The Ekiti State Police Command has observed with concern the increasing rate of motorcycle-related accidents across the State, particularly those arising from the flagrant disregard for traffic rules and regulations by some motorcycle riders.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu.

The statement continues, “The Command notes that some riders engage in reckless riding, disobedience to traffic signals, over-speeding, dangerous overtaking and other forms of traffic violations, thereby endangering their own lives as well as those of passengers, pedestrians and other road users.
“In view of this development, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP FALADE ADEGOROYE MICHEAL, has directed all officers and personnel responsible for traffic enforcement to intensify patrols and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws across the State.
“Motorcycle riders are hereby warned to desist from all forms of reckless riding and other traffic violations, particularly disobedience to traffic lights and other road signs. Any rider found violating traffic regulations will be made to face the full weight of the law.
“The Command also urges passengers and occupants of motorcycles to caution their riders against reckless driving and disobedience to traffic rules, especially at traffic light points. Passengers are encouraged to decline any journey that puts their lives at unnecessary risk and to report dangerous riding where necessary.
“The Command reiterates that road safety is a collective responsibility and calls on all road users to exercise patience, discipline and respect for traffic regulations in order to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
“The Ekiti State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and road users in the State”.
