The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris has approved the immediate suspension of the Commissioner for Health, Yanusa Isma’il.
The decision follows the Governor’s directive for the Commissioner to provide satisfactory justification against allegations of negligence of duty and disregard for his official mandate.
This directive is coming days after a journalist in Kebbi State, Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa was detained for releasing a video showing the poor conditions at Kangiwa General Hospital, Kebbi.
Critics condemned the detention, accusing state authorities of attempting to silence reporting rather than address the systemic neglect highlighted by the video.
According to Governor Idris, the Health Commissioner stands suspended from office until further notice.
