The Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has once again adjourned the trial of Alararomi of Araromi Ekiti, Ijero Local Government, Oba Babalola Adebomi over alleged certificate forgery, to 22nd January, 2026.
NEWSTODAYNG recalls that Justice T.B Adegoke of the Federal High Court, Akure, Ondo State, on 20th February, 2025 had ordered that the trial of the monarch be moved to Ado-Ekiti division of the court.
Oba Babalola was arraigned in 2024 on two charges bordering on alleged forgery of the University of Ibadan certificate and presenting same to the University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti for a job in 2008 and also alleged forgery of the Discharge Certificate of National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) and presenting same to the University Teaching Hospital for job.
The Ekiti State Ministry of Justice had earlier requested the Court to enable it take over the matter using the fiat issued by Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami in 2017.
In his argument, the Police Prosecutor Itunu Oshobu urged the Court not to allow the Attorney General of the State to take over this matter because the Minister who issued the fiat in 2017 is no longer in office.
The Counsel for the Ministry of Justice, Mr Sina Adeyemo said the position of the State’s Attorney General, Dayo Apata SAN, is different from the federal, noting that the Constitution has empowered him to take over any case of such a manner.
Upon hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Babs Kuewunmi adjourned the case to 22nd January, 2026 for further deliberations.
