Yuletide: Ekiti Waste Mgt begins 15-day marathon environmental sanitation exercise

warns residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse

EKiti State Government has commenced fifteen days marathon environmental exercise to ensure clean environment during the Christmas and New year’s celebrations and warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The exercise took place in some place including the major markets such Oja Bisi, Oja Oba, Atikankan, Agric Olope, Awedele market as some environmental offenders were arrested for indiscriminate dumping of refuse in unauthorized places.

Speaking on the yearly exercise, Director General, EKiti State Waste Management Agency, Mr Sunkanmi Onipede noted that it was done in line with the directive of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to ensure epidemic free environment during festive celebration.

The Director General explained that Ekiti state had witnessed development in many sector that would attract influx of people during the festive, urging people to maintain hygienic environment and shun unhealthy living.

Mr Onipede said the state government has provided enough Dino bins across the state to aid proper waste disposal, saying anyone caught dumping refuse in an unauthorized places would be arrested and prosecuted.

The EKiti State Waste Management Agency Director General therefore wished everyone a merry Christmas and a prosperous and sought their support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration beyond first term in office
